George Vinson
Director, Governor's Office of Homeland Security

George Vinson's law enforcement career has spanned 34 years. He began his career with the California Highway Patrol, and served 10 years from 1966 -1976. He was appointed as a Special Agent with the FBI in 1976 and served 23 years, prior to retiring as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the San Francisco Office. He also served in Fresno, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Washington D.C.

As the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of San Francisco, George was responsible for counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism matters. He managed the development of the first Bay Area Joint Terrorism Task Force now composed of 40 police officers and federal agents.

Upon retiring from the FBI, George joined Barclays Global Investors to establish their global Corporate Security program. He served as Director of Barclays' security until appointed by Governor Gray Davis on November 1, 2001, to serve as his Special Advisor on State Security. Currently, George is serving as the Director of the Governor's new Office of Homeland Security.

George is a California native and resides in Gold River, California.
