Send your questions to scms@dts.ca.gov.
Q. Can you provide an example on how to use Secure FTP using MVSSY5 in a batch job/ISPF/TSO Command line?
A. The following is an example of a secure file transfer protocol (FTP) from SY5 to SY3 (SCO).
//S1 EXEC PGM=FTP,REGION=4096K, // PARM='-d -r TLS mvssy3.teale.ca.gov 2121' //OUTPUT DD SYSOUT=0 //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=0 //SYSFTPD DD * SECURE_DATACONN PRIVATE SECURE_CTRLCONN PRIVATE KEYRING SY$OMVS/FTP2SY3 //INPUT DD * racfid password PUT 'data.set.on.sy5(member)' 'data.set.on.sy3(member)' QUIT
Q. When Cannery Campus staff move, will the Virtual Tape Server (VTS) be moved to the new location?
A: The VTS, or possibly multiple servers, will be split between the Cannery Campus and the Gold Camp Campus so that a virtual volume written at either campus will be written to a physical volume at both campuses. The VTS located at the Cannery Campus will be moved to wherever Cannery Campus staff move.
Q. Has a decision on which product will be used to move the data been made?
A: Yes, IBM Extended Remote Copy (XRC).
Q. Has the ADABAS problem with DASD replication been resolved?
A: Yes.
Q. When testing is done, will the data be rolled back?
A: Yes, the data will be rolled forward such that it is synchronized with the source data again.
Q. Will tape migration be performed from 3490 to 9480 tapes?
A: We plan to migrate as many 3490 tapes to the VTS as possible -- the remaining 3490 tapes will require transportability.
Q. What about the SNA customers that access the Gold Camp Campus via point-to-point, will this change?
A: We plan to install a Point of Presence (POP) site.
Q. Provide an example of non-mainframe applications that DTS will backup, and will this include the COEMS environment at the Cannery?
A: In this project phase, DTS will not backup non-mainframe applications. The COEMS environment is not covered in the scope of this project.
Q. When will the Hot Site contract terminate?
A: The contract will be maintained until customers no longer need this service or no longer want to pay for it.
Q. How will data security be handled when the data is being transferred between two data centers?
A: The proposed solution will maintain the security levels for access and transmission of data as prescribed by DTS and its customers. The proposed solution will not impact or change the current security levels. The transmission of data between campuses for the mirrored DASD at each campus will be accomplished over the InterCampus OR Network. The InterCampus network is a dedicated connection between Gold Camp and Cannery campuses. The scope of the InterCampus OR Network project solution was to install a connection dedicated to internal department systems that is not shared by any external resources or department customers. DTS controls and manages the data transmitted across the InterCampus network through existing systems and applications/programs. Generally, the programs define security requirements for data transmission to meet their business and technical requirements. DTS uses various methods to deliver secured data transmission with a number of supported layers such as:
- Dedicated firewalls at each campus controlling traffic utilizing ports
- Systems transmitting data can use SSL certificates to guarantee data packets are secured prior to transmission. SSL is supported at either the system/server layer or the application layer. The application or program can encrypt data prior to transmission and the campus receiving the data will need to have a receiving application or program that decrypts the data after receipt of the data. DTS will continue to utilize the security methods based on customer requirements and DTS security requirements.
Q. When the systems are merged, will there still be JAS2 and JAS3, and what about VM and VTS?
A: From an SCMS perspective, the failover/test environments will look the same from a client application perspective. So a Cannery client running in a JES2 environment would test and failover to a JES2 environment at Gold Camp. The reverse would be true for the Gold Camp JES3 clients. Over time the Cannery and Gold Camp environments will become more similar, but it is unlikely they will ever be identical, and both JES2 and JES3 will be used at DTS for the foreseeable future.
Q. How much is the move going to cost clients?
A: It is expected that existing rates will cover any costs associated with the move.
Q. With one data center having VSM and the other VTS, will they both be upgraded at both sites?
A: Yes. At present, both VSM and VTS are in use and will continue to be used at both sites.
Q. What will be the VTS lag time, and how will client know what the lag time is?
A: The lag time will be known; it is estimated that the lag time will be 10-30 seconds for the data replication.
Q. Will the test environments have all the same files and applications as the production environments?
A: Yes.
Q. When will the first client data be tested in this project?
A: The first quarter of 2009.
Q. Will the SCMS User Group discuss other topics that need to be addressed?
A: Yes.
Q. Will an agenda be provided before each meeting, and how far in advance can we get the agendas?
A: We plan to post agendas on the SCMS User Group webpage two weeks prior to meetings. Questions and answers will also be posted on this site.
