AUDIENCE: This course is designed for programmers, analysts, technical
support and operations personnel who want to learn to code and tune
basic JCL in a z/OS environment.
 
PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of the courses INTRODUCTION TO
Z/OS and GETTING STARTED WITH Z/OS TSO/ISPF, or equivalent training
and/or experience.
 
DESCRIPTION: This course presents all of the basic JCL statements and
discusses the most commonly used parameters on each. Several of the
regularly used IBM utility programs are explained and examples of
their use in JCL are presented. Efficiency techniques for coding JCL
are presented that ensures the optimum use of JCL and system re-
sources. Hands-on workshops are used to reinforce concepts.
 
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the
student should be able to:
 
· Describe the basic JCL statements and the most commonly used
  parameters available in z/OS JCL.
· Code JCL job streams that perform commonly required business
  functions, such as creating and manipulating z/OS data sets on
  disk and tape.
· Define the procedures used by z/OS to receive and process JCL.
· Identify the various parts of the JCL output reports, analyze the
  information, and determine the best course of action to improve JCL
  performance.
